David Joyner - Serving North Carolina Congregation Members
David Joyner is an active presence in the Rocky Mount, North Carolina, community who maintains a thriving congregation of 1,3000 church members as First United Methodist Church senior pastor. His responsibilities extend to serving on the board of the NC Wesleyan University. As superintendent of the North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church (NCCUMC) Heritage District, David Joyner oversees the activities of pastors, including mission outreach across 51 churches statewide.
David Joyner is an avid gardener who cultivates a one-acre garden with the assistance of a John Deere tractor. Many of the vegetables he grows find their way to the tables of the less fortunate each year. Having earned his doctor of ministry and master’s of divinity at Duke University, he is a Thriving Rural Fellow of the Duke Endowment. He also holds leadership responsibilities on his church’s Bishop's Cabinet.
His family is avid beachgoers who visit locales such as Myrtle Beach and Wrightsville Beach nearly every year. He has also taken cruise vacations to Italy and Greece with his wife, and to the Bahamas with his entire family.
